Features & game modes

Whistle1 Retro World Tournament Edition is a pure tournament manager: no club, no transfer haggling, no long league season. Here is what to expect.

Two roads to the title

Straight to the finals

You go directly into the final tournament. One nation, eight matches to the title: three in the group, then five knockout rounds from the round of 32 to the final, all of them single matches. Every line-up counts.

Qualifying

The long road: fight through qualifying, modelled on the format of the six continental confederations, then into the finals. You play your own confederation yourself, the game simulates the other five, and the field of 48 comes out of both. In the phone, "Road to the tournament" shows the standings of every confederation. Whoever survives qualifying arrives with form and confidence.

Both the straight route and qualifying are free.

The draw & free choice of team

Choose your nation from 169 teams: the 48 finalists and 121 more from qualifying. Groups A to L are drawn by pots with the hosts set, and the knockout bracket follows from that. A team of your choice or a random field is drawn fresh as well. No two tournaments are alike.

48 nations, 12 groups: pots, hosts and 169 nations to choose from.

Managerial depth

Opponent scouting

Scouts narrow down your read on an opponent: formation, weak spot, key player. You never know everything, but enough to decide.

Training & training camp

Before every match you spend training points, and your assistant coach makes a suggestion. The training camp builds fitness, form and morale where you need them.

Calendar

Every day counts: recovery, a video session, a team evening, a media day or a friendly. Planning is optional, kick-off comes anyway.

Squad nomination

First a provisional squad of up to 35 players, then the final 26 before kick-off. A decision with consequences.

Form, morale, home advantage

Freshness, form, morale and home advantage feed into every match. A good hand with the line-up decides matches.

Live simulation

The proven Whistle1 engine plays out every minute, as an instant result or in text mode. You react from the touchline.

Dressing room, press & studio

At half-time you talk to the team in the dressing room: praise, criticise, change the tactics or have a word with one player. After the match come the press conference and the TV panel. Your answers move the federation, the fans and the press, and with them the rest of the tournament.
