What do I get for pre-registering?
The database editor, which lets you rewrite teams, players and ratings, is yours for free. Otherwise it is an optional in-app purchase. Google Play also notifies you at launch and downloads the game automatically.
Is Whistle1 Retro World Tournament Edition free?
Yes. The straight route into the finals, qualifying, all 169 nations and all five difficulty levels are free, with no ads and no subscription. Optionally there is a Pro version as a one-time purchase: database editor, your own player, more training points, a bigger scouting network and cloud saves. You still have to win it yourself. When does the World Tournament Edition launch?
The app is close to release on Google Play. There is no release date yet. Pre-registered players are notified by Google Play.
Which devices is it for?
For now Android, in landscape. There is currently no commitment for other platforms.
Can I play offline?
The tournament runs locally on your device. The internet is only needed for optional features such as the leaderboard, cloud saves and purchases. Error reports and anonymous usage counters are only sent after your explicit consent. More in the privacy policy.
Which languages are supported?
11 languages: English, German, Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Indonesian, Arabic, Polish and Russian.
Straight to the finals or qualifying: what is the difference?
Going straight in starts you in the final tournament. In qualifying you first play your way through the qualifiers, modelled on the format of the six continental confederations, and then enter the tournament. Both are free. More about the modes.
How many matches are there to the title?
Eight: three group matches, then five knockout rounds from the round of 32 to the final, all of them single matches.
Can I choose my team freely?
Yes, from 169 nations: the 48 finalists and 121 more from qualifying. The groups are drawn by pots with the hosts set.
Are real player and team names included?
All names can be edited freely; the editor lets you adjust teams, players and ratings yourself. Not an official product of FIFA or any football association.
How does the World Tournament Edition differ from the original Whistle1?
The original is a career manager across many seasons. The World Tournament Edition concentrates on the tournament of nations, quick to play from the group stage to the final. There is no stadium building and no sponsorship. You do not need the original to play it.
How do I get on the leaderboard?
After a tournament played to the end you submit the run yourself. Runs with editor changes or a foreign database only count on your own device. To the leaderboard.
